Personal Growth: The Journey
Life is a journey. And so is personal growth.
The United States is as divided on the subject of personal growth as it is divided politically. There are those who will read the books, listen to the CDs, go to the seminars...literally pursue personal growth and development. These are people of action. And then there are those who mock personal development; who reject it at every turn. These people, though they won't admit it, are people of fear, doubt and unbelief. These are people of re-action.
People of Action
People of action in any society tend to be the movers and shakers that get things done...make things happen. They are the trends setters; the financially literate; successful business developers; able investors. These are the people who bless the very society that often take cheap shots at them.
When you think about people of action, you may think of: Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mary Kay Ashe, Rich DeVos, Rupert Murdoch, Dani Johnson and others who have done so much to create jobs (which stimulates the economy), educate our populous, and inspire entrepreneurs. Without men and women like these people of action, our world would not be where it is today.
But there are other men and women of action who are assisting people at the grass roots level as pertains to increased income, personal development, and financial IQ. Names that may not yet be of house-hold recognition, but have none the less done great work for families across America and even internationally. People like Tom Challan, Shari Snyder, Brannon East, Jefferson Santos, Madiba Thompson, Stacy O' Quinn, Jackie O' Quinn, Reco McDaniel, and so many others (I'm sure some of you reading this may have names of your own that come to mind).
People of Reaction
When I think about people of reaction, I think of the picture to the right. Most of the time, their lives end up like this train wreck. Reaction, simply stated, is a response to another event. Within the context of financial literacy and personal development, people of reaction are those who are left to respond once the "action," or event has already taken place. Something like...showing up late to the dance; or arriving when the party is already over.
People who live their lives in reaction, could be defined as those who are always a "day late, and a dollar short." In the business world, this could mean the difference between building a champion empire, or sitting in the dust with the remains of your company lying around you in a heap. (For instance: it's probably not the best time to go into home phone service, when people are building blogs from their cell phones.)
People of reaction do not find themselves financially secure. People of reaction typically do not find genuine happiness. People of reaction often end up with mates that were not the best fit. People of reaction are building the bank accounts of the people of action!
Grow YOU, and Grow Your Money
My personal success coach always said: "Nate...your income follows your personal growth. You are getting out of life exactly what you are supposed to be getting based on where you are right now in your personal development." Sometimes that has been a bitter pill to swallow, but also a tremendous "meter" of sorts to figure out my exact location in life. If you A) Know where you are; and B) Know where you want to go; then C) You can plot your course most accurately for arrival. And then there's D) Be on the look out for obstacles and changes in the terrain. Don't be afraid of them; there's always a way around, over, under or through them!
Andy Andrews, in his book The Traveler's Gift echoes this sentiment of getting out of life exactly what we have put into it. It's a fantastic read that will help those who are serious about personal change, and ready to become men and women of action!
You can take it to the bank: Grow YOU...and You WILL Grow Your Success in Life!

Very good, not many people realize that if you work on yourself, the results transfer to your ventures as well, and all other stuff in your life.
I think personal growth is undervalued by those who fear it, and ironically by those who need it most. Great article! Bravo!
